Caffeine Free Drink Alternatives
I am that weird person that doesn't drink coffee... I know, odd right? I actually love the taste, smell and quiet time it brings. But I get the worst jitters and elevated heart rate when I drink it! My anxiety kicks in, and I even have trouble sleeping or winding down at night. Therefore, I never drink it!
BUT, that does make me the KWEEN of decaf or non-caffeinated drinks! I love drinking tea all throughout the day. And because I never drank coffee I have been able to experiment with loads of drinks that still bring that warmth and coziness coffee does.
I want to share my caffeine free drinks with you! Whether you are someone who wants to incorporate less caffeine, doesn't drink coffee at all, or just wants to learn about other options, this page is for you!
Let's get into the goodness....
Dandelion Root Tea
Dandelion root tea is a naturally caffeine free tea that some say tastes similar to coffees bitter taste. It supports our bodies natural detoxification process, thus is a natural digestive aid. It also is known to detoxify the liver. I enjoy my tea steeped in warm water with a touch of honey. It’s probably my favorite tea out there any time of day.
Homemade Hot Cocoa
Hot chocolate is simple to make at home, all you need is 1 tablespoon 100% cacao powder, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 cup plant based milk of choice and 1 teaspoon maple syrup (more or less depending on sweetness). Cacao powder is high in antioxidants (fun fact, it has more than blueberries), magnesium (for healthy muscle function), and provides fiber to stimulate the bodies digestive enzymes. The best part is that cacao powder is a natural way to provide energy to your body when feeling fatigue! If you have collagen or coconut butter, add a scoop of each and this makes the perfect pick me up afternoon treat, especially when you have a sweet tooth!
Turmeric Latte or Golden Milk Latte
A golden milk latte is simply 1 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, 2 cups plant based milk (or canned coconut milk) and 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup warmed up in a pot and poured into a mug. Other optional add ins are a splash of vanilla, pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of cinnamon. This latte has such incredible benefits such as being particularly incredible for reducing inflammation. But remember, if you are using it for the purpose of anti-inflammation, just add a pinch of black pepper to activate the anti-inflammatory properties. It is also a great drink during the winter to boost the immune system. Every time I go out to a coffee shop I order the golden milk latte as I like seeing the different flavor profiles each coffee shop has for this drink, and I don’t have to worry about staying up at night from caffeine.
Apple Cider Vinegar + Lemon Juice + Honey + Hot Water, great for digestion!
Apple cider vinegar has chains of prebiotic protein enzyme molecules that are known to cleanse the body. It’s important we consume organic apple cider vinegar “with the mother” as that is what provides most of the health benefits. Lemon is great for clearing skin and it is also hydrating. Upon waking up in the morning, try adding 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon honey (more or less depending on your sweetness preference) and hot water to a mug. Sip on it (with a straw to protect your enamel) first thing to feel your digestive system begin to work!
Rooibos Chai Tea
Rooibos chai is spicy tea made with flavors like cardamom, cinnamon and clove and filled with antioxidants that help the skin look youthful. The different flavors are especially great for boosting the immune system. It tastes slightly sweet yet earthly, and can be brewed not only hot but also as iced tea. I especially love making a caffeine free chai tea latte with Rooibos by steeping the tea with 1 cup warm plant based milk, a spoon of honey and additional hot water! If you wanted to get fancy, you could froth some oat milk and add that on top! Sipping on this in the winter while working is so cozy and warming.
